Arandan[Aranadan]
1.This community seen in Eranadu taluk of Malappuram District. Their poppulation is 95. They are nomadic and engaged in hunting. Some People are living in Colonies Constructed by theGovernment. Their Literacy rate is 17.2

Irular, Irulan
Total population - 18698.

2. They are seen in Attapady area of Mannarkadu Thaluk in Palakkad District and also seen in Nelliyampathy, Pothuppara, Mayamudi, Palakkapandi, Koonapalam of Chittur Thaluk, Valayar Hills.They are engaged in agriculture and the literacy rate is 11.8.

Ulladan,[ Ullatan ]
Total Population - 11687 Literacy 50 %

3. Upto 1976 The Malayulladar community was included in the list of STs and Ulladan seen costal area was included in SC list. Now both Communities are included in ST list and now Known as Ulladan. They were also Known as Panikkar and Nadi. They are seen in Thrisur Idukki, Kottayam, Alapuzha, Kollam. They are mainly engaged in cutting the trees, Collection of fire woods. Those who seen in costal area are mainly engaged in making of country boats and it's maintanence they are also experts in turtle catching with special type of rode ( Amakkole).

Uraly

Total Population - 9032 Literacy 50.4 %

4. They are seen in Idukky, Kottayam and Kollam Districts and Living in small huts making on top of the tree (Erumadam))inside the forest. They are engaged in cultivation and collection of forest produces.

Kanikkaran, Kanikkar

Total Population - 12725 Literacy 53.84 %

5. They are seen in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam District. Mainly engaged in agriculture and collection of forest produces.

Kudiya, Melakudi

Total Population - 597 Literacy 38.31 %

6. They are seen in Kasaragode District. Mainly engaged in agriculture.

Kurichchan [ Kurichiyan

Total Population - 22215 Literacy 28.06 %

7. They are seen in Wayanadu and Kannur and in border places in between Wayanadu and Kannur. Ancient Join Family System is still following by some families and still continueing the traditional characters like untouchability with other tribal communities. They are mainly engaged in agriculture.

Kurumans [ Mullu Kuruman, Mulla Kuruman, Mala Kuruman ]

Total Population - 20741 Literacy 38.69 %

8. They are seen in Wayanadu district and also Known as Mullu Kuruman . They prefer to live in Pukka Houses and Mainly engaged in agriculture.

Kochuvelan

Total Population -

9.This is not a special tribal community they are the piest (Moopanmar) of Ullada community to do this spiritual ceremony.

Palleyan, Palliyan, Palliyar, Paliyan

Total Population - Palleyan- 30, Palliyan-793, Palliyar - 420

10. This is one group known in threee names and seen in Idukky district. They have a mixed culture of Tamil and Malayalam. Some families are converted in to Christianity in Anakkara area.

Paniyan

Total Population - 56952 Literacy 11.01 %

11. This is the largest Tribal community in Kerala and in Wayanadu district and also seen in Kannur, Kozhikkode, Malapuram.They had been slaves of land loards for decades.Govt. Kerala has abanded the slavery and rehabilitated them in different Govt. projects.Right from that time onwards they got better education and life style. They are speaking premitive malayalam language.

Kattupaniyar Seen in Nilambur forest in Malappuram District and leading a life style of primitive tribes.

Total Population - 5813 Literacy 19.12%

12. They are seen in Palakkadu, Idukky, Kottayam Districts. They are engaged in agriculture and collection of forest produces. Even now some rare families are living in small huts making on top of the tree (Erumadam))inside the forest.They were expert in weaving thin mats named 'Kannadi paya' (Mirror mat). Even now they have there own king named Kozhimala raja-mannan and his own kingdom

Malakkuravan

Total Population - 584 Literacy 49.38 %

13. They are seen in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Kottayam district. head of the community is known as 'Urali'. Mainly engaged in hunting agriculture and honey collection. Women are engaged in Fire wood collection and palm history ( chirognomy ).

 

Malayan, Nattu Malayan, Konga Malayan (Excluding areas comprising the Kasargod, Kannur, Wayanad and Kozhikodu district)

Total Population - 2395 Literacy 39.51 %

14. They are seen Thrissur Palakkadu districts only. Those who speaking malayalam is known as Nattumalan and those who speaking thamil is known as Malayan. Main occupation is hunting collection of forest produces and agriculture.

Malasar

Total Population - 967 Literacy 12.47 %

15. Seen in Palakkadu, Thrisur District. Once they were nomadic but now they settled in colonies.

Malayarayar

Total Population - 2746 Literacy 73.24 %

 

Malai Pandaram

Total Population - 2122 Literacy 35.4 %

17. They are seen Kollam and Kottayam Districts. Tribal physical features are clearly visible on them and speaking a mixed language of Tamil and Malayalam. The main occupation is hunting and collection of forest produces.

 

Malai Vedan [ Malavedan ]

Total Population -2435 Literacy 44.53%

18.They are Seen in forest area of Thiruvananthapuram,Kollam and speaking a mixed language of Tamil and Malayalam.The main occupation is hunting and collection of forest produces. 

Maha Malasar

19. They are the part of malasar community

 

Muthuvan, Mudugar, Muduvan

 Total Population -11213 Literacy 10.49%

20. Muthuvan and Muduvan are the same communities seen in Idukky and Eranakulam.Mudugar seen in attappadi and Eranakulam.Main Occupation is agriculture but muthuvan are largely cultivating cardamom, They carry their children on the back of the body. Comparing with muthuvas, mudugar are more black.

Hill Pulaya, [ Mala Pulayan, Kurumba, Pulayan, Karavazhi Pulayan, Pamba Pulayan ]

Total Population -3092 Literacy 45.9 %

21. They are seen in marayoor area of Idukky district Kurumba pulayar and Karavazhi Pulayan are also included in this community. Main occupation of Kurumba pulayar are goat farming and collection of forest produces, Karavazhi Pulayan engaged in cultivation
