   The Model Residential School scheme is intended at providing high quality education to talented students by providing them all kinds of amenities. It is the most prestigious scheme of the ST .Development Department. There are 14 such Model Residential Schools and 4 Ashram schools ( for primitive tribes (PTGs)) under Tribal Development Dept now. The MRS at Thirunelli , Wayanad is exclusively meant for Adiyans, Paniyans and PTGs. Admission to this school is made through a state wide entrance examination to the students of Standard. IV class

   The State level implementation of the MRS/ ashram school scheme is vested with the Kerala State SC/ST Residential Educational Society. The Society has to be suitably empowered to ensure the smooth and efficient functioning of these schools during 10 th Plan. The Society will also undertake the school building construction works through various agencies like NIRMITHI, COSTFORD,CPWD and also PWD instead of exclusively relying on PWD.

Model Residential/Ashramam Schools (50% CSS)
   There are 18 Model Residential/Ashrama schools of which 3 are funded as grant-in-aid under Article 275[1] of the constitution [ MRS, Pookot [75% CSS for Revenue Expr], MRS, Idukky[100% CSS] MRS CBSE, Njaraneeli, Thiruvananhapuram[100%CSS] which provides for 100% cost of construction by Govt of India. For the remaining 15 MRS, 50% of the cost of construction is provided by Government of India. The remaining cost have to be borne by the State.

1) Model Residential School Nalloornadu Wayanad
The School started in 1990-91 and at present plus two classes are going on .

2) Model Residential School Kattela Trivandrum
This school also was started in 1990-91 and plus two classes are going on now. Almost all the school building-+ construction works have been completed now.

3) Ashram School for Primitive tribes at Noolpuzha Wayanad
This school started functioning in 1991-92 . Now High school classes are going on . School building construction is also going on .

4) Ashram School for Primitive tribes Manjery, Malappuram
U.P classes are going on in this school which started in 1993-94. Action is being taken to construct permanent building for the school.

5) Model Residential School, Attappady
This school started functioning in the year 1997-98. School building construction will be started soon. The school needs Rs.40 lakhs as revenue expenditure in 2000-2001. Therefore, Govt of India may release Rs.36 lakhs as grant-in-aid in 2000-2001.

This school started functioning in the year 1997-98. School building construction will be started soon. The school needs Rs.40 lakhs as revenue expenditure in 2000-2001. Therefore, Govt of India may release Rs.36 lakhs as grant-in-aid in 2000-2001.

This school started functioning in the year 1997-98. School building construction will be started soon. The school needs Rs.40 lakhs as revenue expenditure in 2000-2001. Therefore, Govt of India may release Rs.36 lakhs as grant-in-aid in 2000-2001.

8) Model Residential School Pathanamthitta
This school started functioning in 1998-99. Action is being taken to acquire land for school building construction. An amount of Rs. 33 lakhs is needed for running the school in 2000-2001. Therefore Govt of India may release Rs.29.7 lakhs as grant-in-aid during 2000-2001.

9) Model Residential School Thrissoor
This school started functioning in 1998-99. Action is being taken to construct the school building An amount of Rs. 33 lakhs is needed for running the school in 2000-2001. Therefore Govt of India may release Rs.29.7 lakhs as grant-in-aid during 2000-2001.

This school started functioning in 1998-99. Action is being taken to construct the school building in the land already received. An amount of Rs. 33 lakhs is needed for running the school in 2000-2001. Therefore Govt of India may release Rs.29.7 lakhs as grant-in-aid during 2000-2001.

11) Model Residential School Kasaragod
This school started functioning in 1998-99. Action is being taken to construct the school building in the land already received. An amount of Rs. 33 lakhs is needed for running the school in 2000-2001. Therefore Govt of India may release Rs.29.7 lakhs as grant-in-aid during 2000-2001.

12) Ashram School Palakkad
We have already received administrative sanction for starting the school. An amount of Rs.25 lakhs is needed for starting the school in 2000-2001. Hence Govt of India may release Rs. 22.5 lakhs as grant-in-aid in 2000-2001.

13) Ashram Schools for Paniyans & Adiyans in Wayanad
This school is proposed to be started in 2000-2001. An amount of Rs. 25 lakhs is needed for starting the school. Like the primitive tribes school, students will be admitted in Std.I. Govt of India may release Rs. 22.5 lakhs as grant-in-aid in 2000-2001.

14) Model Residential School Pookot Wayanad.(Art.275(I)
During 1997-98 the Government of India had released Rs.100 lakhs for constructing the school building. The school building will be constructed in the lands available with the Pookot dairy project Wayanad. The school will be started in 2000-2001 in a temporary building. During 2000-2001 Rs.4.07 lakhs is proposed as 25% State Share for meeting the revenue expenditure of the school. The balance 75% will be met from the already released funds under art.275(I)(General Release). Hence Govt of India may release 90% of the State share (ie. 90% of Rs.4.07 lakhs) as grant-in-aid in 2000-2001.

15) Model Residential School Kottayam
It is proposed to start a new Model Residential school at Kottayam during 2000-2001. The estimated expenditure for starting the school in 2000-2001 is Rs.10 lakhs . Hence Govt of India may release Rs.9 lakhs as grant-in-aid in 2000-2001.

16) Model Residential School Punalur
It is proposed to start a new Model Residential school at Kottayam during 2000-2001. The estimated expenditure for starting the school in 2000-2001 is Rs.10 lakhs . Hence Govt of India may release Rs.9 lakhs as grant-in-aid in 2000-2001.

17) CBSE Njaraneeli
This school started in 2003 in Njaraneeli at Thiruvananthapuram district for providing residential education on central sylabus pattern from std 1 to plus 2.District wise quata is fixed for the admission with income sealing.
